Public Debate on Three Years of South Asian University Experiences and Expectations 

An institution is always based on a broader idea of service. This idea generates and grows through the regular discourses on it. Such discourses bring out the aspects hidden in the idea itself. Such is the power of a discourse.South Asian University in an institution whose presence is well deliberated upon. To review where we stand today”Rickshaw” A Students’ Collective organised a public debate on 19th  September 2014.

Three Years of South Asian University Experiences and Expectations  which had the eminent panelists  Dr Ravi Kumar Chairperson, Department of Sociology ,Dr Anirban Dasgupta, Associate Professor, Economics , Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Assistant Professor, International Relations, Dr.Srinivas Burra, Assistant Professor , Legal Studies  and Dr. Nafees Ahmad Assistant Professor, Legal Studies and moderated by Dr Dev N Pathak Assistant Professor , Department of Sociology. Few students also shared their views as a panelist.

Young scholars’conference and Jatra ’14

Young scholars and researchers from across the South Asian Region  debated  on various socially relevant issues over two days in a regional conference. The event, Debating Identity – Dialogues across Boundaries, was  held on 16 and 17 October at the Akbar Bhawan campus of South Asian University.

The youth conference was seen by  many young scholars and researchers from social sciences and humanities background from universities and research organizations from SAARC countries discussing on a variety of topics that include minority and transnational identity, cosmopolitanism, multiculturalism and alternative gender.

The two day conference concluded  with a day-long cultural journey called Jatra ’14 on 18 October wherein cultural activities of different hues and sounds took centre stage. The activities  included  South Asian food festival, photo exhibition, blood donation drive, musical concerts by artistes and bands from different South Asian countries. The events was  organised by the Sociology Department, Faculty of Social Sciences,  South Asian University  (SAU )
