South Asian University commemorated the 30th SAARC Charter Day

The 30th SAARC Charter Day was organised by the South Asian University (SAU) to commemorate the 30th SAARC Charter Day at India International Centre on 8th December 2014.

Speaking at a SAARC event Shri Ms Sushma Swaraj, India’s External Affairs Minister said “Culture, commerce and connectivity can be the building blocks for a better future for the people of South Asia” .The event was well attended by Ambassadors, High Commissioners, Heads of international institutions, SAARC organisations, think tanks and many other dignitaries.

On Thursday 18 December 2014 , LILA Foundation and South Asian University organised an evening of reading and discussion with poet R Cheran and novelist Vikram Kapur, chaired by Dr. Kavita Sharma President of South Asian University.
Crossing Boundaries


Paula Richmond lecture, topic of Crossing Boundaries – Narratives and Persons chaired by Dr. Kavita A. Sharma, President, South Asian University was held on 21 January 2015. In Paula Richmond lecture, she reflected upon various aspects of crossing boundaries with the help of such narratives delving into the Ramayana tradition in parts of India, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Indonesia.

Seminar on Performative Communication in South Asia

SAU Jamia

On 20th to 21st January 2015 a two-day international seminar on Performative Communication in South Asia was held at Jamia Millia Islamia University . The two-day seminar co-organized by Department of Sociology, South Asian University and Center for Culture, Media and Governance, at Jamia Millia Islamia was well attended by scholars from India, Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh and probed into the politics of culture and culture of politics.

Gandhi as a Global Thinker: Legacies of the Anti-Colonial Revolution


The annual lecture series, Contributions to Contemporary Knowledge was formulated by the Faculty of Social Sciences at South Asian University showcases selected work of eminent scholars from any part of the world whose work would be of relevance to South Asia. On 29th January 2015 Gandhi as a Global Thinker: Legacies of the Anti-Colonial Revolution was presented by Kieth Hart Centennial Professor of Economic Anthropology, London School of Economics at the Indian International Center.

South Asian University Launches Its First Academic Journal

SAU Launching Journal South Asian University (SAU) launched its first academic journal, “Society and Culture in South Asia” on 3rd Febraury 2015. The biannual journal is published by the Department of Sociology of the South Asian University in association with Sage India. The “Society and Culture in South Asia” journal was launched by eminent economist Prabhat Patnaik at an event in India International Center. The launch was followed by a panel discussion on the ‘Politics of Academic Publishing.
